A favorite photo taken in the Old House...

This is one of my all-time favorite photos. Isn't it sweet?
My grandmother, Nitis, is the hugger and her sister, my great-aunt Necel (also my namesake), is the huggee. I think they are so cute.

This was taken in the Old House kitchen. The sink and cabinet are still the same and I still have that old kettle you see in the background.

I believe Aunt Necel maybe have been born around the time the family bought the Old House, 1888-ish. I loved watching Lawrence Welk with my Aunt Necel every Saturday evening.

My grandmother was born in the Old House. She always told us it was in 1900 but the family Bible says 1899. (I think she liked being a couple of years younger than my grandfather.) My grandparents didn't have my dad until they were in their mid-40s so they were always "older" grandparents.

So, there you have it... a little more history of some people who called the Old House, "home."

I hope you've enjoyed one of my favorite photos and here's wishing you a great Thursday.

  1. I can remember watching Lawrence Welk in my grandparents apartment right outside of New York City when I was a little girl. One of my fondest memories.
    Loved this post Necel.

  3. Again-

    I love that kitchen!

The fact that the family called it home is especially sweet. I see why that is a favorite photo.
Thanks for sharing the old photos.

  6. A sweet hello to you Necel (what a lovely name). I saw your comment on the Shabby Chic Cottage blog and had to let you know that I also had the same idea of taking a photo of a really messy area on Frog Hollow Farm!

  7. Necel, I think I had better bring my grandmother's kettle in from the rain. Then again, she used it as a flower pot, and I've tried to carry on that tradition. :) Great post.

  8. Necel, I think I had better bring my grandmother's kettle in from the rain. Then again, she used it as a flower pot, and I'm simply carrying on the tradition. :) Great post!
